شرح سایت روان سنجی : پرسشنامه NEO نخستین بار با 300 گویه توسط Paul Costa‚ Jr. and Robert McCrae در سال 1970 پدید آمد. در سال های نخستین این پرسشنامه دارای سه عامل و با نام Neuroticism-Extraversion-Openness Inventory =NEO-I مطرح شد. در بررسی های بعدی دو عامل دیگر افزوده شد. همچنین در سالهای بعد، بازنگری های فراوان بر آن انجام و نسخه هایی با شمار گویه های کمتر و با نام هایی گوناگون ارائه شده است. این ابزار 50 گویه از International Personality Item Pool نیز برپایه همان مدل پنج عاملی پدید آمده است.
در ایران، این پرسشنامه "نئو" کار زیادی انجام شده است.
