Each item is scored on a scale from 1–5 using terms such as “very often‚ fairly often‚” “sometimes‚” “once in a great while‚” or “practically never” or “very confident‚” “fairly confident‚” “slightly confident‚” “not very confident‚” “not at all confident.” Most items are reverse-scored so that a high self-esteem response leads to higher scores. Items with (R) are not reverse-scored.  (Heatherton & Wyland‚ 2003)
